Miscellany - January 2006
-
Amy Dominguez is putting together a
progressive dinner for the Opti-Spouses on January 19. It starts
at Betty Hyatt’s house (where Randy also lives) for the
appetizers and salads, then proceeds to Marianne Hughlett’s
house (which she shares with Bob) for the entrees, and winds up
at Judi Lee’s house (where Gary also hangs out) for dessert.
Where will the men be that night? At our dinner meeting at
Frantone’s, of course. Call Amy at 562.865.2961 to sign up.
-
Our annual essay contest will take place at
our breakfast meeting on January 26, chaired by Bob Cameron. Bob
has been working with the local high schools encouraging
appropriate faculty members to get their students to submit an
essay on “Freedom in America”. The top three essays will be read
by the students that morning and scholarship checks will be
awarded to the winners.
-
The annual girls’ softball pancake break-fast
will take place February 25 at the Regional Park. Yes we’ll get
up at 6:00 that morning and cook and serve pancakes to help
raise money for the girls. Sign-up sheets to follow next month.
-
The Junior Miss program will take place March
4 at the Cerritos High theater. This time, Rick Renaker will
chair it, supported by Gloria Kappe and Jamie Herbon. We’ll look
for talented high school juniors who will compete in several
judged categories, and move on to compete in California’s Junior
Miss program, then on to nationals if successful.
-
Our thanks to Larry Good for organizing the
youth basketball skills contest last month at the Cerritos High
gym. Several dozen kids showed up and we thank the Optimists who
showed up to help.
